The Shelly Beach precinct is an established residential area with reserves, parklands and a number of popular beaches. Shelly Beach itself is well-known for it’s protected natural rock pool and shady picnic area to the south, popular with families all year round.
Harrys Lookout and Nobbys Head both offer impressive views of the coastline, and the area features Sea Acres Nature Reserve with its Rainforest Centre, Cafe and Boardwalk.
The land was historically used for agricultural purposes in the 1800s, with housing and tourism booming in the area from the 1960s. Harry Thompson looked after the reserve creating the lookout, bush track of 254 hand carved steps and unique bush furniture. His contribution is recognised with art and story installations.
