Wauchope is a rural-residential and township area with a population of around 7,500, situated on the railway line connecting Sydney and Brisbane and close to the beautiful Hastings River. The area includes established homes in the town as well as new estates with modern homes in surrounding precincts.
The town has a boutique shopping area along the main street, featuring the Co-op supermarket and departments store, as well as stylish mix of clothing and homewares shops. The area offers plenty to do including vineyards, state forests and community events.
Major features of the area include a local hospital, schools, TAFE, Country Club, Broken Bago State Forest, showground, parks and playgrounds, swimming pool and riverside reserves and picnic areas.
The town is thought to be named after Captain Wauch, an early landowner, and features a popular heritage theme park, Timbertown, inspired by the logging industry that formed the basis for the region’s early economy from the 1820s, along with the dairy industry.
